Cult and Reality

Research Opportunities in the Elischer Goethe Collection of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences

On 6 May 2025, the Kabdebó Szakkollégium organised a hybrid presentation titled "Cult and Reality: Research Opportunities in the Elischer Goethe Collection of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences", in room A/1 fsz. 10. Dr Tünde Paksy (Institute of Modern Philology, Department of German Studies) gave her presentation in person, while Andrea Molnár, Scientific Secretary of the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), joined the event online. The speakers introduced the Elischer Goethe Collection, the fourth-largest Goethe collection in the world, which is kept in the MTA Library. They explained the importance of the collection for Goethe scholarship, cultural history and reception studies, and provided insights into how the collection can serve as a valuable resource for university research, especially for those students who are still looking for possible topics for their theses or dissertations. The event was also meant to provide inspiration and guidance for students interested in archival research and the long-standing cultural impact of Goethe in Hungary.

Sharing International Academic Experiences

On 27 February 2025, the Kabdebó Szakkollégium hosted an event in the University Library as part of its ongoing student engagement within the CEEPUS framework. The event focused on international academic experiences, with presentations by two teacher-trainer students, Kitti Oszlovits and Kristóf Bártfai, who recently completed a study visit to Palacký University in Olomouc, Czech Republic. In front of a mixed audience of students and faculty, the speakers gave practical advice for prospective students, provided insights into academic life abroad and highlighted the value of CEEPUS mobility opportunities. Their presentations also touched on cultural and extracurricular experiences, such as exploring the historic city of Olomouc. The event provided a valuable platform for peer-to-peer exchange and drew attention to the benefits of internationalisation in higher education.

AI in the language classroom: A workshop and discussion by Attila Takács

Originally advertised for students of Kabdebó Szakkollégium, the event attracted a diverse audience, including university students, staff, and language teachers from local schools. The introductory presentation provoked numerous ideas and questions from the floor. Topics ranged from the practical applications of AI in language teaching and learning to broader concerns such as challenges, anxieties, innovative ideas and best practice.
