Innovative Collaboration at the University of Miskolc: Our EFL Students Contribute to AI Development in Education

In an exciting initiative, students from the Department of English Linguistics and Literature, University of Miskolc are partnering with AI developers in an international project aimed at enhancing educational technology. Under the guidance of Attila Takacs, Assistant Lecturer in the English Department for the course Digital Tools in Education, these Master's students in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) are leveraging their expertise to help shape AI tools that are currently in the development phase.

Bridging Education and Technology

This collaboration allows our students to share their insights on the challenges of language learning in the digital age, ensuring that the AI tools being developed are aligned with the real needs of educators and students. By providing feedback on usability and effectiveness, they play a crucial role in improving the program and gaining valuable hands-on experience that bridges theory and practice.

First Phase of Cooperation: Testing AI Integration in Real Lessons

This project is currently in its first phase of cooperation, where our students are testing how the AI program, called KatoAI, fits into actual classroom environments based on lesson plans they have developed. KatoAI is developed by a team based out of Dublin City University, and this testing process is critical in determining whether the AI tools are effective and practical for real-life educational settings, ensuring that they meet the needs of both teachers and students.

Enhancing Teaching Practices

Through this project, students explore new ways to integrate AI tools into their classrooms, evaluating how these resources can enhance student engagement and personalize learning experiences. This engagement not only enriches their learning but also prepares them for their future teaching careers.

The students of the English Department at the University of Miskolc are at the forefront of the intersection of education and technology, contributing to the development of innovative solutions for language learning. Their feedback is instrumental in refining the AI program, ensuring it meets the needs of future educators and learners. We look forward to seeing their impact and the positive influence this experience will have on their professional growth. Stay tuned for updates on this unique collaboration!
