On Thursday, April 20th the department’s annual English short film festival was organized by Dr. Ruth Karin Lévai with the participation of Viktória Láng, Julia Váraljai and Dr. Ágnes Magnuczné, and our veteran film festival jury members Niki Szabó and Krisztián Czaga. Secondary school students, as well as students from our American and British Film courses, were invited to submit 10-15 minute films in English on any topic. Awards were given for the categories of best actor (male and female), as well as best supporting actor (male or female) and best cinematography.
We were delighted to welcome our guests from Árpád Vezér Secondary School in Sárospatak who arrived with their two teachers, Tímea Csontos Takácsné and Katherine Schuppin. Leila Zulejka Semsey and Jana Záhonyi tied for the best actor in a female lead for their captivating performances of Juliet, the original and the modern version, in “Time Travel to Medieval Times”, and Csaba Novák was awarded the prize for best actor in a male lead for his performance as Romeo, the original. And what a balcony scene it was! The award for best supporting actor went to Aura Kovács who enthralled the audience with her skills as the narrator. And the award for best cinematography went to four of our students, Ákos Iski, Péter Lukács, Nándor Dérer and Bence Szabó, for their apocalyptic thriller “Critters Below”.
